MyNotes is an application for quickly
and easily storing, organizing and recalling text notes.
Copy and paste text to and from MyNotes to use it as a
long term clipboard. All notes are saved to a single
compact text file so you never have to worry about
"which file did i save that note in?" Notes are arranged in an easy to use tree view arrangement for simple organization. Search all notes at once using a single Find command.
MyNotes Really QuickStart Copy some text in another application. The text will have been saved as a new note in MyNotes, and ready for retrieval or editing the next time you launch MyNotes! The first line of text in the note will be the title that shows up in the treeview. Any note changes you made are automatically saved when exiting MyNotes! Installing MyNotes
MyNotes does not have an installation program. Simply move or copy the MyNotes.exe file to a convenient folder. A folder or subfolder within your My Documents folder is the suggested location. It is also suggested that you create a separate folder just for the exe file. Though not necessary, future versions of MyNotes may place additional files in the same folder. The first time MyNotes is run, it will create a file called MyNotes.txt in the same folder. ALL the notes and sub notes you create will be stored in this single txt file. you can launch MyNotes by double clicking the exe file. For easier use, it is recommended that you create a shortcut to the exe file.
If you wish, you may also want to assign a shortcut keystroke to the shortcut (if it is located on your desktop or in the Start menu). This will allow you to launch MyNotes or make it the active application if already running.
To create a new blank note,
To create a new note from copied text,
Choose File...Save to save all the notes in their current state. Choose File...ReOpen to "undo" all note changes since the last File Save Closing MyNotes, by using the X in the upper right corner, or by choosing File...Exit automatically saves all changes to the notes, without any additional prompting. To close MyNotes without saving the changes, in case you have made changes you don't want to keep, choose File...Quit. Modify your notes in the upper Text portion of the MyNotes window. Working in the text window is very similar to working in notepad, including using the same (or very similar) Edit menu, popup menu, or shortcut keys Use the ctrl-End key or Tab key to save the note changes and to move focus from the text window to the treeview. When working in the treeview, use the Tab key to move focus to the Text window to start editing the note text. Pretty much any action that moves focus away from the text window will save the note changes - once those note changes have been saved, it will not be possible to "undo" those changes except to "ReOpen" the file from the File menu, which will Undo all changes made to all notes since the last time the file was saved. You can change a note's position in the treeview by using the Note Menu or the shortcut keys listed there. Moving notes up or down, only moves them within the current branch. Moving a note to the right, makes it a child note note of the previous note Moving a note to the left moves it a sibling note of it's parent note When a note is moved, all it's child notes are moved with it (they move as a whole branch) When a note is deleted, all it's child notes become sibling notes of the deleted notes parent note. The child notes are NOT deleted along with their parent. They must each be deleted individually. Cut, Copy and Paste only affect the current note, not their children notes. If you need to move an entire branch, use the move commands. For moving a single note, without it's children, it is easier to use Cut or Copy and Paste to the new location. Branches may be collapsed or expanded as desired, and the state of all branches is saved when the file is saved, and restored when the file is reopened You may resize the MyNotes window and adjust the splitter bar between the text window and tree view window as needed.. Finding and Searching through your Notes Use Find on the View menu or Ctrl-F to set up the initial search, including the Text to search for Then click Find Next Then use Find Next on the View menu or F3 to search again using the same settings Or use Find on the view menu or Ctrl-F to change the search settings MyNotes is copyright OutOfNoWare 2006 MyNotes is free to use, copy and redistribute under
