Information Center USA Annual Essay Contest
Katie Crow, 8th grader at Wachter Middle School
in Bismarck, North Dakota took 6th place in the
www.stepintogerman.org "Step Into German" online contest. First and
second place winners won iPod nanos and 3rd - 10th place winners won $25.00
iTunes gift certificates. The first place winner would have won an
all-expense paid trip to see German band sensation "Tokio Hotel" in concert
in Washington, D.C. on May 1st and visit with them backstage, but the leader
singer, Bill Kaulitz, had to cancel due to recent vocal cord surgery. The
band was recently featured on MTV, in 'Teen Vogue' magazine and is appearing
on "Conan O'Brien" on May 9th. Katie plans to purchase the band's newest
american- version CD which will be released on May 6th.
Katie is signed up to take German I in 9th grade
at Wachter Middle School, where her Mom will be her teacher this coming
fall. Mom and daughter will also be traveling to Germany in June 2009 with
twelve fellow German students and their parents.
Please help me in congratulating Katie for
winning sixth place in a national contest! Other students who placed were
all high-schoolers from California, North Carolina, Washington, Minnesota,
Ohio, Georgia and Indiana.
Students interested in participating in the next
contest are encouraged to sign up at
www.stepintogerman.org to listen to modern German music and answer the
quiz questions correctly to win prizes. ("Step Into German" is sponsored by
the Goethe Institute, an institution that encourages studying German in
school.) Students across Italy, France and the USA are taking German in
numbers never seen before just so they can sing along to "Tokio
Hotel's" music!
Viel Glueck! Good luck!
